The Maryland Film Industry Coalition hosted its annual fundraiser, the Bull Roast, on Saturday night, November 5, 2011 at Martin’s West in Baltimore. On September 9, Washington, D.C./Baltimore Branch Screen Actors Guild staff members Lois Seffu and Allison Shanley attended the Eighth Annual DC Shorts Film Festival, which began September 8 and continues through September 18. The 11-day festival showcases 145 short films from more than 20 countries in four locations in and around the District.
In the final hours of the 2011 session of the Maryland General Assembly, the Legislature unanimously passed SB672: the Maryland Film Production Employment Act, and the Screen Actors Guild Washington-Baltimore Branch and AFTRA Washington-Baltimore Local played a key role in the successful passage of this legislation that will bring film and TV jobs back to that once busy state. The bill was signed into law by Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley on May 19, 2011.

Because of the inherent complexities of agency relations today, SAG and AFTRA (the “Unions”) have received numerous requests from members in both the Virginia Beach and Washington, D.C. areas to clarify the status of the Unions’ agency franchises, and Union members’ obligations there under.

This contract will come to you with a recommendation to vote "YES" from both the Screen Actors Guild National Board of Directors and the recently constituted Negotiating Task Force that helped bring these negotiations to a conclusion.
