I would like to wish everyone a healthy and prosperous new year. As we roll into 2008 I hope all of the following issues within the industry will be resolved:
- The negotiations between the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the AMPTP who are at a standstill in negotiations but have begun informal discussions to determine if there is a basis for both parties to return to formal negotiations. WGA has reached interim agreements with some producers. Many SAG members have supported the WGA strike by walking their picket line.
- The Directors Guild of America (DGA) contract negotiations. They have reached a tentative agreement on the terms of a new 3-year collective bargaining agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).
- SAG’s upcoming negotiations with the AMPTP. Hopefully, SAG will come out with a contract everyone will be happy with.
Wages and Working Conditions Committee Work
Contract negotiations for the Basic Agreement will be coming into play very soon, let us stick together in unity with our National Negotiating Committee and work for the best results. They will be fighting for the best deal possible.
The National W&W Committee has begun their meetings to start preparing a contract formula for negotiations with the AMPTP. Our input is important.
Locally we will be having a W&W meeting at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 15 regarding what would be beneficial to Nevada. If you have any suggestions please contact Hrair by email at hmesserlian@sag.org or by phone at 800 724 0767, prompt #7.
With all that said, I hope work will pick up for us and that this will be a good year.
Fraternally,
Steve Dressler
Nevada Branch President
