Actor Bio
Joe Hansard portrayed "Nathan Levi Boston" in season 5 of HBO's "The Wire" in the "React Quotes" episode February 3rd 2008.
Recent feature film credits include Mark Webber's Explicit Ills (2008) produced by Jim Jarmusch, "Hit and Run" with Laura Breckenridge.
Hansard is a fixture on the independent film scene, sporting years of experience as both lead and supporting player in television and film. Known for an eclectic screen persona, his characters span the gamut, from hillbillies to the homeless -- a mixed bag of lovable creeps, kooks, cops, etc.
Barry Levinson cast Joe as "Jimmy Lee Shields" in the pilot episode of NBC's "Homicide: Life on the Street" (1993).
Hansard's film debut was alongside Oscar winner Adolph Caesar and Ron O' Neal in the feature film The Hitter (1979). Not a bad start for the kid from Baltimore, landing a speaking role as "Graveyard Redneck" and getting his SAG card to boot. The acting bug bit around age seven when Joe's mom Caroline brought him to an audition for "King Fluff" laundry detergent. |
