Michael Mili was born in Detroit, Michigan to parents, Pantelis Michael and Caroline Mili both Greek Americans. His father was born on the Isle of Cyprus, immigrating to the USA in 1948. He was a Sculptor, Toolmaker and the son of famed Cypriot Naive artist Michael Christos Kashalos (Mili). Pantelis died in 1974 of heart disease, followed later that year by his famed father, who was murdered by invading Turkish soldiers, on the Isle of Cyprus. Michael's mother Caroline was born in Detroit and worked as a nurse till Michael's birth. She died in September of 2001 at the age of 76; both of Michael's parents were devote Greek Orthodox Christians.
Michael graduated from Cody High School in 1976 and studied Graphic Arts and Marketing at Henry Ford College before moving on to The Detroit College of Business. Michael was first married to Fay Kassapis from 1983 - 1981; together they had two children, Paul and Melina. In 1996 Michael married Miki Filiposka, and together they have three children, Anastasia and Dimitri & Christopher. Before performing on the screen, Michael's writing and acting career started at a much earlier age; to avoid the beatings of some bad kids in his new neighborhood, Michael was forced to act much tougher than he was. That's where his writing talents came to light as he had to write himself out of some really bad situations. Michael has worked in both TV commercials and has had several rolls in independent films. He also performed for a short time, as a stand up comedian and even ghost wrote for several comedians. (No credit but he got paid.) Michael has been involved with entertainment in one form or another, for most of his adult life. He's performed in film, stage and live comedy theater. Michael is a working screenwriter for Happy Trails Animation and is a freelance comedy writer for numerous advertising clients. His first paid acting experience was as an extra, in the CBS made for TV movie, "Jimmy B and Andre," staring Alex Karras. But his most memorable experience was with Pat Morita in "Collision Course" where he played a Greek waiter. Though his scene ended up on the cutting room floor, Michael say's his experience working with Pat Morita was one he will cherish for all his day's. Michael's training includes: Detroit Ensemble Theatre, One-on-one comedic training with Rich Goteri, Director of Detroit's Second City for 10 years, as well as, Kirk Noland's Comedy Camp. Michael attributes the bulk of his comedic training to living with his funny family; He claims that just the way they looked at things made you happy. It did not matter if you didn't have two nickel to rub together, or you were sick and ready to die; Michael's parents, aunts, uncles and cousins, were all people who loved to laugh. Michael goes on to claim, that his home life was the best school of comedy he could have attended. Michael has the lead in a feature film called: "The Death of Michael Smith", directed by Daniel Casey. In the film, he portrays Michael Smith, a remorseful hit man who's come to the end of his career. The story follows three men with the same name, inextricably linked to a mysterious murder. The film premiered January 20, 2007 at the Slamdance Film Festival, in Park City, Utah where it won Best Picture. Michael has also wrapped in several other projects. Dirty Trousers, a film set in 1935 where he portrays a mobster loan shark named Lou. He appears in (club owner turned filmmaker) Johnny Anton's Crime saga: "Guns Drugs and Dirty Money" where he portrays a Hit Man named Sly. Some may also remember Michael as the co-owner of Pharoh's Golden Cup, in Westland, MI. Along with business partner Johnny Anton, Michael co-produced over 850 musical events involving over 3500 bands. Michael Continues to work in Film as an Actor and Writer. |
