SAG New Media Contract Fosters Creative Growth in Hollywood

The Screen Actors Guild, or SAG, is the premiere union for film and television actors in the United States. Professional actors join the union to secure better wages and working conditions for themselves and obtain health insurance and pension benefits in many cases.

A producer must become a SAG signatory in order to employ a member of the Guild, which means they sign a contract promising to abide by all of the union's rules for the production and also to pay future royalties to the actors as applicable. Compared to a non-union production, hiring SAG actors can add more complexity, paperwork and expense to a producer's workload.
